The Baldwin Richardson Foods Frederick Douglass HBCU Football Classic is more than a game—it is a celebration of tradition, excellence, culture, and school pride. Rooted in the rich legacy of Historically Black Colleges and Universities, the annual Classic brings together student-athletes, alumni, fans, and the Rochester community for an unforgettable regular-season matchup.

HBCU Football Classics are renowned for their electric atmosphere and cultural significance. From spirited tailgating and high-energy competition to the highly anticipated Battle of the Bands, game day offers an experience unlike any other.

The Classic honors Frederick Douglass, the legendary abolitionist, statesman, and Rochester resident who championed education, equality, and justice. His enduring influence remains deeply connected to the city. As Rochester Mayor Malik Evans shared, “Frederick Douglass is integral to the fabric of Rochester.”

After memorable matchups between Central State University and Albany State University in 2024 and 2025, the tradition continues. The 3rd Annual Baldwin Richardson Foods Frederick Douglass HBCU Football Classic returns on Saturday, October 3, 2026, as the Lincoln University (PA) Lions take on the Virginia State University Trojans.
